Richard Snell
Members of the U3A Computer Group will no doubt be shocked and saddened, as Tom and I were, to learn that Richard died of a heart attack last week in France.
He had only recently joined our group but was clearly going to be a congenial companion and a knowledgeable contributor to our discussions.
I first met Richard last year when he and his wife Maureen attended the U3A course on French Poetry. He had joined the course late and, only a few weeks ago, asked me if I intended to repeat it as he wanted to come to the first few sessions and catch up on the poets he had missed. Sadly, this was not to be.
He and Maureen were hoping to buy an old property – a “ pile of stones “ in his own words - in France and live there while he renovated it. He was a serious Do-It-Yourself man and the only person I have known who could move easily from discussing the poetry of Baudelaire on to the subject of computers and then bring first-hand practical knowledge to a consideration of the problems of weather-proofing valley-roof gutters.
I am sure that all members of our group will wish to express our condolences to Maureen and their family at this time of great sadness.

Good Grief! Yes, add my condolences, please.
I am so sad to hear of Richard's untimely death.
Please add my condolences to his wife and family.
I would like all our members to know that I have sent a letter to Mrs Snell conveying the condolences of all us on Richard's death. I gave her the address of our weblog in case any of her family would like to log in to see what Graham has said, and I also gave her a printed copy in case she was unable to find the site.
So sorry to hear about Richard. I shall miss his cheerful face opposite me. Please add my condolences too.
