Name Dat File
Re my recent query (unanswered) about .dat files: MB says: "As far as I can ascertain, .dat is a data file. It suddenly appeared on my PC after I had it repaired and the shop put some Anti-Virus in." There must be a moral there somewhere.

A .DAT file can be anything. But INDEX.DAT is a (normally hidden) Windows System file, which you tamper with at your peril.
